Black lamps shades offer a good alternative to black table lamps if you do not want to go all the way. Personally, I do not think that having both the lamp and the shade black will work very well but that is simply a matter of taste.
Having said that, lampshades are an essential ingredient to designing the lighting in your home. By using the right combination of lamp and shade, you can entirely change the ambiance of a room. In fact some people choose to simply change the shade at frequent intervals to give the room a different feel about it.
You can get lamps shades in many different shapes, sizes and colors so there is plenty of choice for you. There is also a great variety in the material that they can be made of.
Let us take a look at some different lamp shade styles.
Victorian lamp shades
In the olden days the shades were often made of expensive fabrics such as velvet, satin or silk. Particularly in Victorian times they were rather exotic and were braided around the edges, had tassels or were covered in lace.
Often they were hand made or, at least, designed individually for whoever wanted them. The table lamps were carved by hand sometimes too.
Chandelier lamp shades
These are very different from the normal in that they tend to be small and dainty. They offer a brilliant finish touch to chandeliers.
Tiffany lamp shades
A tiffany lamp is a part of the art nouveau design style. they are basic table lamps with very elaborate glass lamp shades. These lampshades are normally of the leaded stained glass type.
Imagine a stained glass window in a church and scale it down a lot and you see a tiffany lamp. Everything is much smaller and the patterns produced include flowers, animals, ornate patterns and various colorful insects such as a dragonfly.
If you have a tiffany lamp it will not be used for general blending in of the decor but will be a piece of furniture in its own right. It should be the highlight of the room.
Modern lamp shades
Modern lighting is often very different to that of days gone by. They can be in very vibrant colors but, as compared to the tiffany style, they are often just a single color.
The materials that they are made of are just about the same but the style can be quite original. If you really do want black lamp shades you will probably have to opt for this style.
